“Apparently, some people think we are an art collective. We can see why, as most projects we are displaying on this website don’t come from a commercial need“.

“The whole ‘what is really art anyway’ discussion is old, so we’ll skip it, and if you think what we do is art, then thanks we guess.
We don’t think of ourselves as artists, we come from a product/interaction design background.
What we see ourselves as is a studio that does what it very well pleases, experimenting with products and electronics and the like, not necessarily being tied to a client.

That said, it’s not like we don’t want clients, we would love to do explorative work for money.

Who we are? Lars Marcus and Theo”.

Geospire
Geospire is an installation for children visiting the Geological Museum in Oslo. The project is commissioned by and done in cooperation with Voy. Lars Marcus and Theo at Skrekkøgle were responsible for designing models and graphics. The goal was to teach children about landscapes and types of rock, using games with simplified 3D visuals. The games were enabled with small objects with an RFID chip inside, representing what’s shown onscreen. As they had to produce a bunch of these objects, Skrekkøgle decided to make molding shapes for PUR from sintered models in silicone. After research for the right material, Skrekkøgle started molding in PUR11, a polyurethane version, which is durable enough to survive kids’ play. With the result turning out successful, they assembled it all and attached the RFID chips.

Doberman design digital services that people love, desire and depend on. Their work helps organisations innovate and manage change to improve their customer interactions. Founded in 1998, Doberman now has 50 co-workers in Stockholm and Berlin. They are ranked as on of Sweden’s top three agencies in the last eight years.

The Design of Everyday Experiences
The target of reaching a more sustainable development, both within climate gas discharge and other environmental issues, means that we as consumers must become aware of, take responsibility for and as a result also change our everyday behavior.

Who will speak at EDIT DIG?
Magnus Bergmark has a background as entrepreneur and strategic consultant in digital media and branding. In 1996 Magnus founded one of Sweden’s most successful web agencies; Moonwalk. He has since worked as strategist an account director at the agencies Identity Works and BvD, and since 2006 at Doberman. In his role as a branding- and design strategist, Magnus has been working with clients such as Telia Sonera, Unilever, Swedish Pharmacy, Lindab, White Architects and Ericsson.

Albert Isaksson is Design Director at Doberman, with vast experience in digital interface design and design systems. Albert has previously worked at the agencies Starsky, Daddy and Exposure. In his role as Deisigner at Doberman, Albert has worked with clients such as: Swedish Pharmacy, Lindab, Swedish Public Service Television (SVT) and Norwegian Public Service Broadcasting (NRK).
Check Out

The aim of CHECK OUT is to develop a prototype of a service that helps the food consumer to take a greater environmental responsibility through offering decision support at the moment of purchase, as well as supporting consumption planning regarding more sustainable purchases and less food waste. Both climate change and other environmental problems can be dealt with through life-style changes: prior studies have shown that there is a great potential for change through using climate coaches for guiding households in their everyday decisions.

CHECK OUTs service prototype aims to make similar strategies available to a greater number of users in a more cost-efficient manner. The result is a unique service with a great possibility to commercialize the result through its partners consisting of: KF Mathandel (Mataffären.se) – Swedens largest internet-based food store, Doberman, an award-winning servicedesign bureau and Interactive Institute -an experimental ICT-research institute.

Keetra Dean Dixon is a designer and artist working under the handle FromKeetra. Her often frazzled NYC based workshop pushes its focus towards non-commissioned work, but occasionally finds the lure of a shiny client job too seductive to resist…

At Røros Keetra Dean Dixon will give us a peak into her meandering methodologies via excerpts of process and short stories. Dixon will discuss the impetus and techniques utilized while attempting to encapsulate the confusion of connection; touching on attempts to leverage the unexpected in the shaping of experience, breaking as a means of making and twisting materials in the pursuit of new form.

Methods
Think through making
Infuse the unexpected into accepted forms
Make through breaking
Embrace the unknown
Share the conversation
Invest in the fantastic and make with wonder
Make the work I wish I was making

Missions
CREATE CONNECTION BY UTILIZING THE FLICKER BETWEEN:
COMMUNICATION / MISCOMMUNICATION / DISCOMMUNICATION
Facilitate or reflect social relation
Question understood patterns & standards
Instill wonder, surprise & delight in the daily routine
Encourage patience & optimism in unexpected circumstances
Encourage an attentive community
Cultivate an openness to play & vulnerability
Twist the cynical loop

ABOUT THE BOOK
Design matters, like never before. Designers create so much of what we see, what we use, and what we experience. In this time of unprecedented environmental, social, and economic crises, designers will choose what their young profession will be about: inventing deceptions that encourage overconsumption -or helping repair the world. Today, everyone is a designer. And the future of civilization is our common design project.Design matters, like never before.

LUST is a multidisciplinary graphic design practice established in 1996 by Thomas Castro, Jeroen Barendse and Dimitri Nieuwenhuizen and based in The Hague, Netherlands. LUST works in a broad spectrum of media including traditional printwork and book design, abstract cartography and data-visualisations, new media and interactive installations, and architectural graphics. LUST considers design as a process: each design evolving from a concept as a result of extensive research.

In the course of its existence, LUST has developed a design methodology which has been described as process-based or generative-systems based design. This entails the developing of an analytical process which leads eventually to an end-product that designs itself. Moreover, LUST is deeply interested in exploring new pathways for design at the cutting edge where new media and information technologies, architecture and urban systems, and graphic design overlap. This fascination led to establishing LUSTlab in the summer of 2010, which functions as the research lab next to LUST. LUSTlab is more than a new form of Research & Development. LUSTlab goes further than observing, inventing and producing, by means of forming a platform where knowledge, issues and ideologies can be shared.

Jonathan Puckey is an independent graphic designer living and working in Amsterdam. More often than not, his work involves a mix between programmed automation and the intuition of the designer. He teaches graphic design at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam and is a visiting lecturer at the Yale University School of Art.
He co-authored Conditional Design, a manifesto that focuses on processes rather than products. The manifesto contains a collection of thoughts that we formulated to put our approach towards design and art into words for ourselves and to open up a discussion with other designers and artists. The focus is on the processes instead of products; products that adapt to their environment, emphasize change en show difference. Using the manifesto as a start-ing point, small weekly workshops result in informal experiments which are published on their website.

The Process is the Product
We start with an input. We confront the input with a set of logical constraints or rules. Then comes the process: the input interacts with, plays with or fights against the logic. Each version of the product tells the history of its process.

Scriptographer
Jonathan has been an active user and co developer of the Scriptographer platform. Scriptogra-pher is an open source platform within Adobe Illustrator which allows designers to program their own tools.
He is currently working on a research project for the ECAL University in Lausanne, Switzerland together with the main developer Jürg Lehni. The project has the aim to make it easier to teach Scriptographer to visually oriented students. They teach the use of the open source platform Scriptographer.org for teaching strategies of integrating programming based ways of working in graphic design. They develop lesson strategies, give work-shops and work on tutorials and documentation.

Artist statement
We live in a dynamic, data-driven society that is continually sparking new forms of human inter-action and social contexts. Instead of romanticizing the past, I want to adapt my way of working to coincide with these developments, and I want my work to reflect the here and now. I want to embrace the complexity of this landscape, deliver insight into it and show both its beauty and its shortcomings.

His independent graphic design studio works with clients like: Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, Stedelijk Museum Bureau Amsterdam, Lectoraat Kunst en Publieke Ruimte, The Beach, Public Space With A Roof, Metropolis M, Esquire Magazine, New York Times Magazine, Stedelijk Museum de Lakenhal.

WORKSHOP: Paper.js
Paper.js is a brand new web based vector graphics scripting framework that runs on top of the HTML5 Canvas. Jonathan Puckey, who developed it together with Jürg Lehni, will guide you through its rich feature set, show you some lovely examples and do a bit of live coding.
